Learning About Automotive Parts

Hello, my name is Talon. Welcome to my site about automotive parts. After 15 years of driving, I still have my very first car. For a long time, this cherished vehicle sat under a car cover in the garage. Now that I have the time and funds available, I started slowly restoring the car from the bottom up. I used a mix of original equipment and aftermarket parts to renew the vehicle’s suspension, brakes, engine, transmission and other important components. I will use this site to explore all of the parts you may need to buy or rebuild to restore your own vehicle. Thanks for visiting.

Questions To Consider When Shopping For A Truck Shell Or Cover

Paula Shaw

Getting the most out of your truck may mean that you need to close in the bed. When it comes how to close in the bed, though, you have many choices. There are a variety of covers and shells on the market for every make and model of truck. The following guide can help you figure out which is the best option for your needs.

What do you typically haul?

This is the most important question to answer. If your hauling often includes large items, such as furniture, that won't easily fit into a shell, then a retractable cover may be a better option. This way you can completely move the cover out of the way when you have an oversize load without any need for full removal. If small items that can fit inside of a shell are more common, then a shell is a viable solution. This is because the shell allows you to fill the bed to overflowing but keeps everything undercover, so you won't need to worry about tarping or otherwise covering your load.

Is security a concern?

If security is a concern, you like want to avoid the tarp or fabric style covers. Instead, opt for the durable plastic covers that fold over the bed of the truck and lock into place. There are also hard-molded plastic covers, which are slightly more secure, but keep in mind they need to be removed for over-size loads because they don't fold or retract. Shells are also an optimum security choice. You can easily find shells with locks, and some types can even be wired into your truck's car alarm system.

Do you need a shop or bed on wheels?

One place where truck shells surpass covers is when it comes to their extended uses. If you have a service business of any type, you can quickly modify the shell and bed to be a rolling shop. There are accessories available that provide ceiling and wall tool storage, along with slide out storage or work benches. You can also purchase or build accessories to modify a shell to allow camping. Simply add a bed platform, with slide out storage drawers beneath, along with any side storage that you need.

Visit a company that sells covers and truck shells to see all the options available, then weigh them against your needs so that you choose the type of truck bed cover that will provide you with the most value.
